Antique Mi'Kmaw (MicMac) Powder Horn
- Maker: Antique
- Model: Horn
- Caliber/Gauge:
- Description:
This powder horn was sourced out of Southern Nova Scotia. This piece appears to be a genuine MicMac powder horn from the eighteen hundreds. This horn shows a great petina that only age can produce. The horn is 11" long with a well worn pine plug at the base, secured by 4 iron brads. At the base is a row of 6 circles mounted by 6 stars in circles. In the center there is a row of 9 smaller stars in circles. A very neat and uncommon feature is a raised 3/4" section of horn and a grove cut to hold the carry thong. The horn is mounted with a modern piece of rawhide which is not original. The snout shows old rough tapers and no plug. We believe that this piece is a genuine Mi'kmaw powder horn. The survival rate of horns of this nature appear to be rather minimal.
