- Description:
This percussion piece is a pattern 1858 Naval Rifle with a Tower lock dated 1859 . These rifles went into production in December of 1858. The barrel is 33" with the 1100 yard sight. This London built example shows the correct proofmarks (1838-68) The barrel shows an overall petina finish with heavy corrosion in the area of the nipple. The bore is obviously pitted. This piece shows very good wood with a clear pimlico WO 1863 dated roundel and a class 2 mark. With correct brass fittings and the sling swivel mounted on the trigger bow, there is a heavy military buff leather sling mounted on the rifle. This piece is one of the scarcer short rifles and more difficult to locate regardless of the condition. Antique- no permit required.
