  • Description:

We are pleased to offer a unique item that seldom is found on the Canadian market.  This is an antique all bronze swivel gun from the late 17th or the early 18th century.  This Lantaka measures 47" overall and shows a bell mouth bore of 4 3/8" that tapers down 8 1/2" to a 2" bore.  This piece shows little ornamentation and is typical of the foundered guns from the Netherlands and Portugal.  Most Lantakas found show more ormamention and were built in Malaysia or the Phillipines where they continue to be reproduced to this day. This item shows an overall dark petina built up over the years of exposure to the elements.  This known gun first appeared in a collection in the sea port town of Yarmouth, Nova Scotia in the 1930's. In the late 1950's it became part of the known collection of the late Dr. Ross MacInnis.  The petina finish is typical of bronze that was exposed to the corrosive effect of salt air.  Both the barrel and yolk show an even dark greenish patina finish.  The piece shows normal usage and age marks but remains in excellent condition. This example differes from most Lantaka's in that the muzzle is belled in a similar fashion to the European Blunderbuss and not flat faced as most pieces as offered.  This piece comes with a modern made oak base and 12 1/2" tiller.  A great example and a unique decoration piece.  Antique
