  • Description:

Tower Brown Bess.  This musket came out of N.B. and was probably a N.B. militia issued piece.  Clear Tower GR marked lock plate.  This example was gun-smith converted as indicated by the commercial hammer and drum .  The hammer and breech area show a significant pitting, but the proofs remain strong on the barrel and tang.  The wood is sound save the "Fat Cheek" shaving of the butt comb.  The bore is corroded ,sound and shootable. The rammer is original .  The wood shows traces of the store keepers and inspectors marks.  The original militia flint musket were converted to percussion and remained in service until the Enfield rifled muskets were issued in the 1850's.
