• Description:

  This European Axe is probably an Exeutionors Axe from the 1st half of the 16th century.  The piece was purchased by a prior European buyer as such.  This iron axe shows a 13" curved wrought iron blade .  The blade shows two touch marks on the right side that we cannot identify.  The head was forged in one piece including the shaft socket.  The left side of the blade is built flat and show an approximate center to the left of about 20 degress.  It also shows a hammer forging line.  The right side edge shows a tapered beveled edge.  Overall the blade shows heavy age corrosion .  The construction of the piece strongly suggests that this piece was built as an exeutioners tool.  The wood shaft was a later added piece.  The axe was obviously buried at some time.  A less than common item.
