  • Description:

SN 135908 is an excellent plus example of a military officers 7 1/2" barreled MK 5 Target Model Webley .  This example shows a bright excellent plus bore in 450/455 caliber.  The blue rates at 99% plus as do the original grips.  This is as close to a mint example as offered for sale anywhere.  The face of the firing pin, shield and face of the cylinder show no indication of firing (other that factory test). In addition to the commerical proofs, this example shows the government inspector mark and broad arrow on the left top strap and grip panel. This example is a very unusual target revolver and was probably specially ordered by the military.  Reference-see pages 138/140 of"Webley Revolvers" by Bruce and Reinhart.  This piece was built with the service style of bird's head frame and grip and a standard firing pin.  The normal target revolver was mounted with a walnut, checkered target grip.  The front sight is of the target type but neither sight is adjutable.  In addition ,this example shows a smooth trigger (non checkered).  This pistol came with its original leather military style holster.  The top edge shows a defaced name.(Officers) J.W.--- and a 1918 date.  Based on the condition, this revolver shows no actual usage and was probably held by a senior officer who retained the piece following the war.  A very scarce and uncommon Webely for the serious military or Webley collector.
