  • Description:

SN 27050 is a J.P. Sauer built Drilling as imported by Manhatten Arms Co, New York.  This was a name used by the importer prior to Charles Daly, Schoverling, Daly and Gales. This piece shows a 29" barrel 12 gauge over 38-55.  The bores show the normal corrosion but appear to be quite shootable.  Hammer gun with barrel selector lever and push down break open lever.  Sound action with case color turned silver.  This piece shows original hammers, lift up tang sight, and five line engraving.  The barrels are Damascus and are overall grey. The action and mechanics are sound.  The wood shows no breaks, cracks or repairs.  There is a Texas style brass star inlaid in the right side of the butt.  The guta-purcha butt pad is original and rates excellent. The forewood is capped with a German silver tip.  An excellent example of an early Drilling that may justify refinishing.  This piece has the advantage of being in 12 gauge and 38-55 caliber which are easily obtainable cartridges.  The 12 gauge barrels are Damascus which require reduced charge loads.  Advice and inspection by a gunsmith should be sought prior to shooting.
