  English WW1 Navy Powder Monkey .  This leather piece is 13 1/2" by 7".  These leather buckets were built to carry powder bags from the lockers to the gun positions.  They were all built from leather to prevent the chance of a spark. This example retains its canvas lining and has its leather strap marked RCD 1917.  The front face shows the Royal Navy N which is partially obscured by a later applied decal. The base is marked No 56 R broad arrow L 11-26 .  We don't know the exact date of manufacture as the strap appears to be newer than the body.
