SN 5689 is a classic Westley Richards 12 gauge double shotgun built circa 1870's. This shotgun would be considered an antique but under Canadian law is a non-restricted firearm. The action is the rotary under lever. The side plates, receiver, hammers and metal fittings all shows excellent scroll engraving. This piece is fitted with a Westley Richards squeeze under safety to prevent accidental discharge. The 27" barrels show the first 8" reinforced to handle extra pressure. The bores rate as bright excellent with only a few light spots of staining. The chambers measure 2 3/4: the right barrel is cylinder:the left is cylinder plus. The barrels were refinished at some time in England and show a clear Damascus pattern. The action is tight and very crisp. The wood is black walnut, shows excellent checkering and a 1/2" butt extension to give a 14 1/2"LOP. This item is an excellent example of a gun built by one of the best English makers. This shotgun was purchased by a former owner as a used gun from WW Greener. It came in an English hard case with a leather label and a full box of Greener "Paragon" hand loaded #5 shot 2 1/2" cartridges. The case is built with heavy partitions and was relined at some time. A piece for the classic shotgun collector.
