- Description:
This antique flintlock shows a 10" barrel marked to the famous British maker Wogdon, London. The barrel shows a silver front sight and is of the style plate 23, page 49 of"The British Duelling Pistols" by John A. Atkinson. The overall length is 14 1/2". The mounts show the typical Wogdon floral engraving on the triggerguard and the butt cap. At a later point in time the original lock plate was replaced by a later plate marked Robinson (Circa 1810). It is probable that at that time the 3 position target rear sight was added to the tang. The piece shows the initials TJ in silver. An interesting example of a pistol by one of the best makers that was modified in its' period of use and probably following the banning of duelling.
