  • Description:

SN 650109 is one of the RCMP inherited handguns from 1950 when the force took over from the British Columbia Provincial Police. This revolver shows the remnants of the BCP issue # 394 on the butt ahead of the swivel. The left side of the frame shows the RCMP stamped serial # 650109 and the fused MP stamp. As per the practice this revolver was rebarrelled by the mounted police to conform to the 5" barrel. The barrel shows a bright excellent bore. This piece was purchased from the force by a new retired member at sometime in the 1960's. Reference to the inherited handguns is found in Arms and Accoutrements of the RCMP by Donald Klancher, page 55-60. This M&P was and continues to be registered as a model 10. It is basically the same configuration as the 5" Saskatchewan revolver fig 118 aforesaid page 57. The overall finish is very good plus with the obvious difference in finish luster on the barrel. As per fig 120 this revolver was also restocked with S&W magna grips. The number of revolvers in this configuration appears to be much smaller than the BCP 38/44 which were inherited by the force. This item provides an opportunity for a RCMP Collector to obtain a 5" 38 special revolver for his collection. A piece for the Smith & Wesson or the RCMP, be provincial police collector.
